I listen to loads of music and pick my favourites for the show. I want to share the music that excites me plus snapshots of life behind the scenes at BBC Radio 1.

Monthly Music Club track No. 45 comes from Australian producers Jagwar Ma. ‘The Throw’ is due for release on the 18th of March. There’s definitely a strong chance you’ll be raving to this band somewhere in a field over the next few years as they headline festivals all over the world. Bold statement at such an early stage, but take a listen and tell me I’m wrong.

Half Moon Run ‘Full Circle’ (44/365/2013)

Monthly Music Club track No. 43 comes from London duo du jour AlunaGeorge. ‘Attracting Flies’ is released on the 10th of March and will be on their debut album ‘Body Music’ due on the 1st of July.

It’s another brilliant pop song from them, in my opinion their best yet. Hints of old school UK garage influences like their recent collaborators Disclosure. A remix is also on the way from Baauer.

Chris Malinchak ‘So Good To Me’...

Chris Malinchak ‘So Good To Me’ (42/365/2013)

Monthly Music Club track No. 42 comes from New York based producer Chris Malinchak. ‘So Good To Me’ has been around for a bit, it was posted to YouTube in October 2012 and part of Pete Tong’s Essential selection back in November. But it’s now got a release date of the 22nd of April.

Could this be 2013’s ‘Language’ (Porter Robinson)? A sleeping summer dance smash.

For fans of Disclosure and the house revival. This one’s for sunset or the chill out moment.
Monthly Music Club track No. 41 comes from 24 year old singer, songwriter, drummer and… model from Westerham, Florrie.

Don’t let the fact that Florrie is a model lead you to the conclusion she’s a manufactured pop princess, only signed for her looks. She’s been the in house drummer for Xenomania (the pop production house) since 2008 and played live and on record for Kylie Minogue, Girls Aloud and the Pet Shop Boys.

Although she’s previously released tracks like this one, it seems that 2013 will be the year Florrie tries to make her own mark. Keep an eye out for her. Including performing at BBC Kent Introducing’s 5th birthday gig at the Marlowe Studio in Canterbury this Sunday the 3rd of March. www.marlowetheatre.com/page/3040/BBC-Introducing-In-Kent/459

The Family Rain ‘Carnival’ (40/365/2013)

They formed in 2008 but have already been through several line-up changes which may explain why it took the 5 years to release their debut album. They’ve not been sitting around though, in those 5 years they’ve toured with Papa Roach, Bon Jovi and Madina Lake and played Download and Sonisphere.

Duke Dumont Ft.
Monthly Music Club track No. 38 comes from London’s Duke Dumont and Sierra Leone’s A*M*E. ‘Need U (100%)’ will be released on the 1st of April and looks like it’s going to chart well in the UK.

Early in his career Duke Dumont was mentored by Switch, and released a couple of club classics including ‘The Giver’ www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoyDZD7e6Us on Turbo Recordings.
Monthly Music Club track No. 37 comes from Manchester’s The 1975. ‘Chocolate’ is the current single due out on the 4th of March. I’ll be honest I’m obsessed with this band. You just can’t help but feel like life is good when their songs are playing. They’re also bloody lovely people.

I’ve just heard the next single. Sounds like something from a classic 80s movie. Perfect. Just perfect.
What more Russ? He did a Minimix for Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show recently. Proper smashed it. That’s how a Minimix should sound.
Monthly Music Club track No. 35 comes from LA sisters HAIM. ‘Falling’ falls (ahem) into the category of songs I’ve only just got my arse in gear to post. The troublesome trio are smashing it out of the park with their smile inducing songs.

I saw them last year in a tiny and peculiar venue in East London. They talked about anal. They’re so cool.

Savage Skulls ‘Adrum Drum’ (34/365/2013)

Monthly Music Club track No. 34 comes from Stockholm producers Savage Skulls. Love this carnival rave goodness - makes me happy.

You may have previously heard their track ‘Bad Gal’ featuring Douster and the vocals of Robyn, released on MadDecent a couple of years ago. www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFy6K2W_Qn4

Monthly Music Club track No. 33 comes from New Malden’s Luke Sital-Singh. ‘Fail For You’ is an older track released by Luke last year. But I wanted to post this now as he’s about to return with new music that should “lock your feet and jaw to the floor” to quote the man himself.

Ruen Brothers ‘Aces’ (32/365/2013)

Monthly Music Club track No. 32 comes from Scunthorpe brothers Henry and Rupert Stansall. ‘Aces’ is for fans of Jake Bugg meets Roy Orbison… uplifting old school rock and roll.

The Ruen Brothers have come through the BBC Introducing system, via BBC Humberside which led to a session for Huw Stephens which went out last week.
